Our school opened in August 1972, with 850 students, and was named Northside Junior High School, with grades 7 – 9. The student population over the next twenty years grew to over 1000. In 1982, the ninth grade became part of the new Brentwood High School, and we became a middle school with grades 7 – 8; later grade six was added. Our enrollment increased to over 900 students. With the opening of two additional middle schools in the northern part of the county, our enrollment averaged 600 students. For the 2002 – 2003 school year, a new addition was added to our building to accommodate an increase of approximately 300 students due to rezoning. For the school year 2021-2022, our enrollment is approximately 1,300 students.
Brentwood Middle School has a serious commitment to addressing the needs of adolescents as they grow through the “middle years”. A schoolwide implementation of the team concept and interdisciplinary curriculum allows our highly professional staff to educate our students toward realizing their fullest potential and becoming responsible citizens.

Teachers use this time to meet in their curriculum teams by subject and grade level (also known as professional learning communities) to make common assessments. They will also map and schedule the sequence of learning objectives. They will also assess the data to see what kind of extra help or enrichment students need during the Thrive period at BMS.
Late Start Procedures
- Buses will run at regular times for students and doors will open at 7:25 AM.
- 6th graders will report to the cafeteria, and 7th and 8th graders will report to the gymnasium.
