A Message from Our Principal

Dear Brentwood Middle Parents,

I hope you all have had a chance to enjoy this beautiful, spring weather in our community. We had a full week last week with athletics, fine arts, and academic extracurricular activities. Congratulations on the wins that all of our spring sports teams had last week. This weekend I had an opportunity to see our quiz bowl team in action in Gallatin. They competed against teams across the state and from north Alabama. Those quiz bowl questions were tough! I am really proud of the way our team represented BMS. I want to give a special congratulations to the cast and crew of Greek Olympiaganza. They put in a lot of long evenings of rehearsals, but the final product was outstanding and very funny. I want to give a special thanks to Ms. Regan Aycock for being our interim theater director while Ms. Faulkner is out on maternity leave. She did a great job with our students.

This week is the first week of our TCAP and End of Course exams for our students. The exams count 10 percent of their final semester grade with TCAP. For students participating in high school End of Course exams such as Algebra I and Geometry, their exam counts 15 percent of their final semester grade. Last week we had a run through to make sure students knew where to go for their testing sites and to have students learn what the testing platform is like. I want to share a few critical points to help your students have a great testing experience.

  • I cannot stress enough that students need to be early to school on TCAP testing days so that they are ready and on time to their testing locations in the building.
  • Every night please help remind them to have their Chromebooks fully charged before coming to school.
  • It is school policy anyway, but we can have absolutely no personal electronic devices besides their school issued Chromebooks. Any inadvertent noises will lead to testing irregularities.
  • We want students to have plenty of rest. I have asked teachers to give no homework outside of students studying for their tests. There will be no large study packets due for a grade. They may have classwork, but we will not have any unfinished classwork assigned as homework. We want to make sure students have plenty of margin for the tests they are taking.
  • Make sure they have a good breakfast prior to coming to school.

We are looking forward to smooth testing weeks, and we have a some fun planned for your students at the end of each day of testing thanks to Mr. Peake, Ms. Fletcher, and Mrs. Madison Smith.

I want to share one last important reminder that we have NO more Late Start Mondays this year. The school year has gone fast! That means school begins for students at 7:50 AM  Monday through Friday until the end of the school year.

Thanks again for your support of Brentwood Middle!

Dr. Harlin
